Deborah (Debby) Uwagboi

Biography

Deborah “Debby” Uwagboi is an incoming second-year law student at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. Prior to law school, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Economics with Honours at the University of Regina, where she also conducted research on the affordability of energy transition through the Department of Economics.

Deborah’s early legal experience includes an internship with the Law Society of Saskatchewan, where she contributed to improving the technologies used to streamline the complaints and investigation intake process.

During her 1L year, Debbie volunteered as a caseworker with Student Legal Assistance, representing low-income Calgarians in Provincial Court in both family and civil matters. She also served as the 1L Representative of Pro Bono Students Canada (UCalgary chapter) and participated in the Youth Criminal Mock Trial program.

In May 2026, Debbie joined Donna Purcell QC Law through the UCalgary Law Legal Innovation Internship, a summer program that equips law students with skills at the intersection of law, business analytics, and technology.

Outside of her legal career, Debbie enjoys cooking and baking, investigative journalism, running, and planning memorable events with friends and family.
